On Saturday, February 2, 2008, approximately 300 youth ages 8 to 14 and their parents participated in the 2008 Ray Lewis Super Kids Fitness Camp at Arizona State University. This free non-competitive camp hosted by the Ray Lewis Foundation in collaboration with The Worthy Institute and Compete for Life Foundation introduced hundreds of Phoenix-area youth to an exciting new way to create healthy futures for themselves and their families. Youth participants learned how to take control of their bodies through innovative and alternative exercises and create fun healthy eating habits all with the help of Ray Lewis, local organizations and several of Lewis’ close NFL friends. Parents received information on how to recognize if their children are at risk for obesity and easy healthy cooking tips.
Ray Lewis, Linebacker for the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, hosts events, fundraisers and other charity events through his 501(c)(3) organization RL52 Foundation, whose mission it is to provide personal and economic assistance to disadvantaged youth. For more information, click here.
Says Rasheda Worthy, Founder and CEO of The Worthy Institute, “It was such a wonderful opportunity to work with Ray Lewis and his team. It is always exciting when someone like Ray, who carries a great deal of respect from youth due to his high profile career, is willing to give to a community with such passion. We were so happy to be a part of the camp.”
Arizona childhood obesity facts are startling and The Worthy Institute is always looking to join in the fight to do something about it! This year, Worthy Institute will host its second youth resident camp for youth ages 9-14 at Arizona State University. Camp L.Y.F.E. (Love Yourself For Everything that you are!), June 23 – 29, 2008, focuses on fun for adolescents while teaching them to live healthier lifestyles. Camp components include fun physical activities, diet and nutrition, self esteem and culture and diversity. Click here to see more information about Camp L.Y.F.E.
