On January 19, 2008, the NBA teamed up with Hollywood once again to host the 8th Annual Jack in the Box Celebrity Shootout, presented by Robert & Carole Machiz.
Celebrity Shootout is an exhibition basketball game that takes place at Phoenix’s US Airways Center. Stars scheduled to attend include Bill Bellamy, Brian McKnight, Terry Crews and Morris Chestnut. All proceeds from the event go to support Phoenix Suns Charities, Suns Nite Hoops and Cox Charities.
Phoenix Suns Charities makes grants to non-profit organizations that serve children and adolescents with education, health and human services, sports and recreation and the arts. Suns Nite Hoops is a 501(c)(3) organization that aims to reduce recidivism by providing educational advancement and job skills training to young men ages 19-25 as an alternative to drugs, gang involvement and violence. Cox Charities targets youth with specific focus on education in these areas: science and technology, arts and culture and healthy lifestyle choices.
“Each year it is a great opportunity to partner with community organizations that share in the vision of improving the lives of young people in our community,” says CEO, Rasheda Worthy. “This event is a fun, exciting weekend of celebrating with celebrities and raising funds to support the ‘stars’ in our community.” The Worthy Institute is proud to serve as the breakfast sponsor for the second year in a row.
