Camp L.Y.F.E. (Love Yourself For Everything) is a seven-day resident camp aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles for adolescents through providing a safe, fun, interactive environment for youth. The Camp L.Y.F.E. experience promotes healthy happy relationships, daily physical activity, proper diet and nutrition, culture and diversity awareness and personal education. Camp L.Y.F.E. will provide youth with the opportunity to practice healthy lifestyle behaviors in every facet of living, including their social, personal and physical environments.
Youth ages 9 – 14 will participate in a wide variety of fun, interactive activities. Each participant will be provided individual support and mentorship. Daily activities include; skating, swimming, yoga, hiking, cooking and dance as well as workshops and group learning activities, Camp L.Y.F.E. offers the traditional “camp” atmosphere in a healthy, fun supportive setting. It provides an environment that feels like home away from home. Participants will have the opportunity to grow and develop new skills and meet new friends throughout their week at the Camp L.Y.F.E. experience.
Camp L.Y.F.E. participants will live in the Hayden East dormitories on campus at Arizona State University in beautiful Tempe, Arizona. Certified teachers, dietitians, registered nurses and pediatricians, ,life coaches and youth advocates will be on-hand to work with youth on healthy lifestyle behaviors and choices using an entertaining approach. Camp L.Y.F.E. will offer group and individual discussion to address issues that impact our kids such as self-esteem, relationships, personal health and culture and diversity. Counseling is also available upon completion of the Camp experience as needed for each family.
Workshops
Campers will attend workshops that provide valuable information about diet and nutrition including discussions on food selection and food choices. Additional workshops will include topics related to self-esteem, culture and diversity, decision making, communication, social behavior and personal success. Other workshops include dance, arts, and group centered games and activities.
Activities
Campers will have a selection of various physical activities to participate in each day. Activities include yoga and Pilates, kickboxing, swimming, hiking, nature walks and strength training. In addition to the physical activities that will be offered, participants will participate in social activities such as talent shows, makeovers, style and dress, theatre and dance.
Field Trips
Participants will attend scheduled field trips throughout the week. Field trip destinations include water parks, theatres, skating, bowling and much more. Participants are accompanied by Camp L.Y.F.E. staff to provide support and help to foster a family environment.
Group Chat and Individual Counseling
One-on-one and group counseling will be available to all campers. Group discussion will be a part of daily activities and provide campers with an outlet to express and share their experiences, personal barriers and concerns as well as share their goals and accomplishments. Campers are able to make appointments throughout the week to speak with counselors individually as they seek support and guidance. Camp L.Y.F.E. staff will assess and evaluate each camper in order to identify and provide necessary support.
